Excursion to Ait Benhaddou
With a tour to Ouarzazate, you will also have the
opportunity to visit Ait Ben Haddou
and the Kasbahs of Telouet. The route takes you through the High Atlas
Mountains and over the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of the most spectacular
passes in Morocco.
The tour to Ouarzazate will give you the chance to
discover Berber villages scattered along the mountains, sometimes blending with
the surrounding terrain. As you reach the other side of the
mountain, the scenery changes dramatically to become semi-arid and desert-like,
as the Atlas Mountains act as a barrier separating the Mediterranean climate of
the north from the arid desert winds to the southeast.
After crossing the 2,162-meter Tizi n’Tichka Pass, we
leave the main road and take a secondary road to the Kasbah of Telouet. The
tiled walls, fluted columns, beautifully decorated wooden
ceilings, and colored glass windows in the reception rooms allow you to imagine
the grandeur of the kasbah at its peak.
From there, the journey continues with lunch in Ait Ben
Haddou along the newly paved road. Once you arrive in the village, you will get
a closer look at the architecture of the kasbah, with towers on all the
buildings, adorned with grilled windows and softly colored
walls. These traditional houses are made of adobe, which is very suitable for
the southern climatic conditions and mountain peaks because it is an effective
temperature insulator and the building materials are abundant, requiring no
significant transportation or processing
